Rosy Chirayath for Finance Board Representative

What experience and qualifications do you have?

Coming to UMBC my freshman year, I was involved on the finance board as a first year ambassador. I also served on first year council and the Student Organizations Committee under the SOS. From that point onward, I learned so much about the inner workings of the school, became friends with many of students on campus and fell in love with the finance board. Hence, my sophomore year I ran for finance board representative and was elected by the student body (thanks, guys!) Through the year, I learned even more and was challenged in so many ways. With two years of serving on the finance board along with my experience in FYC and the SOC, I believe I am well qualified to be a Finance Board Representative this year.

What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?

Last year, as a finance board, we made strives such as the t shirt policy. Yet, we also suffered some setbacks such as the catering policy. If elected I hope to continue promoting campus life through new initiatives and continuing traditional events. I hope to make the finance board more transparent to the student body while smoothing some kinks in the allocation process. I also hope to make it easier for both big and small student organizations (including Greek Life and restricted organizations!) to expand, collaborate, and host events on campus. Most people claim that there is not much to do on our campus. However, it is the complete opposite! I hope to get the student body energized about our campus. And at the end of the day, I hope to bring smiles to the students of UMBC by listening to them, taking their advice, and acting upon their suggestions.

What I really want students to know about me is….

I would really want students to know that I am open to their suggestions. I hope that students can come not only me, but to the entire SGA as a resource and more importantly as a partner. We are here to help! Students should also understand how the finance board makes its decisions; it is important they understand where their money is going. Additionally, I want students to know that I am a fun-loving, approachable person. I love to dance, eat and meet new people! So feel free to stop by a finance board meeting and experience what happens! I truly believe that college is about the whole journey. It is more than going to class and hanging out. It is about going on spontaneous adventures, creating life-long bonds, exploring your school, making scary decisions, and leaving your mark while on that study grind. It is about learning how to learn and more importantly learning how to live.

Platform Summary:
  • Enhance the SGA’s relationship with the student body by increasing communication and transparency.
  • Increase and maintain an active campus lifestyle.
  • Make fair and consistent decisions in the best interest of the UMBC community
