What experience and qualifications do you have?
As the current Assistant Speaker of the SGA Senate, I am working on making sure students get good service from all entities of the university, seeking student perspectives and discussing legislations. Last year, I was a staff member of the Department of Service, Volunteerism and Awareness, SGA. I have also represented SGA on the Academic Conduct Committee for two years in a row. Outside of SGA, I have served as a leader in many student organizations, mainly in Interdisciplinary Studies Council of Majors, and Major Inspiration Service Project. I wasn’t part of SGA during my first year at UMBC. That helped me a lot to gain knowledge on how student life is outside of SGA. I think that experience of mine brings in a very different perspective to the table.
What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
My main goal is to improve communication between students and SGA. I will keep the students informed about SGA projects. I want to motivate students that every one of them could be involved in campus initiatives. I will encourage students to take on their own (student-led) initiatives. My job will be to hear student issues and help them solve it. My other goal is to raise student voices on the committees that I will represent. My duty will also be to work on some of the student issues, like parking, tuition increase, campus food and textbook prices, from this year.
What I really want students to know about me is….
I’ve a lot of experience in working with students and SGA initiatives. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and understanding by volunteering for more than 800 hours on service organizations around the Baltimore community. Personally, I’m very well-organized, responsible, self-motivated, encouraging and patient during crisis. I strongly believe that my personal qualities will help me succeed!
