Justin Lane for Senator

What experience and qualifications do you have?

I served as an SGA Senator in 2009-10. During this time, I held the position of Chairman of the Senate-Executive Finance & Facilities Committee (among other projects, we created the positions of Sustainability Interns—several undergraduate students who strive to make UMBC more eco-friendly). I also served on the Campus Dining Services Committee (a joint-government committee with students, faculty, and Chartwells; among other things, we worked toward providing healthier eating options). Prior to this, I served in the Department of Student Outreach in 2008-09. I have held several leadership positions in various student organizations, and have also gained valuable experience on academic affairs by working in the Advising Office since 2009.

What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?

• Work to improve campus health & wellness • Work with dining services toward providing healthier meal options • Increase sustainability on campus • I hope to have SGA work closely with the Advising Office in order to provide more widespread information to students about academic advising • Support higher education funding • Ensure the responsible allocation of the student activities fee • Maintain the existence of free hour • Maintain longer library hours during exams

What I really want students to know about me is….

I'm a junior majoring in History and Political Science. I've served in SGA before and I know how to get things done. I've been involved with several different organizations and jobs on-campus, so you may have seen me around. I want to continue to serve the UMBC community. I'm a pretty approachable guy--send me an email (I'm currently in the Netherlands) if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas as to how we can improve our community!

Platform Summary:
  • Work with dining services to improve campus health and wellness.
  • Increase sustainability in our facilities to create a greener, more environmentally friendly UMBC.
  • I support longer library hours during exams, and would like to see this extended to midterms.
