Damani Lewis for Vice President for Student Organizations

What experience and qualifications do you have?

I have been a member of the SGA Senate for the past 2 years. With that, I bring in the valuable experience of talking to numerous students on a variety of issues/initiatives, such as smoking policy, inclement weather policy, and campus security. Through working with the Senate, I've also established good rapports with various faculty members, shared governance members, and administrators which will help me in fulfilling the VPSO position. As a Resident Assistant, I've been able to work with a variety of students and help them network with various members of the UMBC community and have guided them to essential campus resources.

What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?

As your Vice President of Student Organizations, my main goal will be to advance what I advocated for last year: encouraging and increasing networking between students and their SGA, and students and their administration. Through the office of VPSO, I want to accomplish this with special considerations towards student organizations. To accomplish this, I will form a coalition that will specialize in providing the resources necessary to maintain student organizations, and will ensure that student organizations know how they can work with their SGA.

What I really want students to know about me is….

I'm excited to start working with UMBC's vast amount of student organizations and its members. Whether it's funding, constitution review, or basic day to day needs, I'll be able to devote the proper time to ensure organizations can thrive here on campus.

Platform Summary:
  • Increase awareness on the services SOS offers to both new and current Student Organizations.
  • Make clear and transparent key policy decisions that affect student organizations made by both Senate and Finance Board, especially those concerning funding/allocations.
  • Encourage meetings and networking between organizations to increase the amount of events on campus.
