Phillip Thompkins for Senator

What experience and qualifications do you have?

Despite being a freshman, I have gotten involved with an extremely diverse group of students. I served as the Erickson CAB's Vice President and RSA Representative at two different times, and I was recently elected to the position of Resident Student Association Treasurer. I am a First Year Ambassador with the SGA's Student Organization Support, and I am a member of the First Year Council. Combined, these give me many different looks into the lives and opinions of the student body, which I believe will serve me well in a position as Senator, which is very outreach-based.

What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?

My main goal is to establish ways to make incoming freshmen willing to be active on campus and enthusiastic about the affairs of the school. As new students, their fresh outlooks are as vital as the opinions of people who have been here for years, if not more so. Every single student has the potential to do things beyond their wildest expectations at this school, it's just a matter of how to enable them to start trying.

What I really want students to know about me is….

I'm not any sort of political enthusiast or anything like that. I don't know anything about governments or politics and those sorts of things that people may expect from members of the SGA. I'm just a nerdy freshman who wants to improve the school by working with what hasn't happened yet, rather than working to change the minds and opinions of people who have been here for long enough to get used to it all.

Platform Summary:
  • 1) Find ways to instill school spirit and campus activism into incoming students.
  • 2) Empower the student body to feel responsible for their campus and their opinion of it.
  • 3) Make the SGA come off as more transparent, approachable, and working to improve the lives of all students.
